The Keystone Project is a statewide initiative that is being conducted in collaboration with the Michigan Hospital Association and Johns Hopkins Research and Safety Group. The focus of the 3 year project is Patient Safety and is based on a combination of application of evidence based Medicine and quality improvement efforts. Here at SJMH-Ann Arbor, our SICU, MICU and CCU are fully participating as well as the CCU at SJMH-Livingston. The goal of the project is to reduce errors and improve patient outcomes in the ICU's.

Four interventions have been implemented since the project began in 2004. These include:

  1. Patient Safety Program and Incident Reporting
  2. Elimination of catheter related blood stream infections
  3. Improving the care of the ventilated patient
  4. Implementing multidisciplinary rounds with identification of daily goals for each patient.
